Commission\u2019s vision on Artificial Intelligence is based on the twin objective of <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #0c0b0b;\">excellence and trust<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #0c0b0b; font-weight: normal;\">. People\u2019s safety and fundamental rights are at the centre of all efforts. At the same time, the EC works together with its Member States and other partners to foster socio-economic and environmental wellbeing through a flourishing science, business and innovation domain.<\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-attachment: initial;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif;\">Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have a potential to significantly\u00a0<b>improve our economies and societies<\/b>. It can help us, for example, to reach climate and sustainability goals and bring high-impact innovations in healthcare, education, transport, industry and many other sectors. However, certain AI applications<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif;\">if used without care, may sometimes create complexity, risk the disruption of activities and processes or even harm\u00a0<b>human rights<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0cm; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-attachment: initial;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif; font-size: 1rem;\">In its efforts to address these two sides of the coin and offer clarity to all those who live, travel or develop their activities within the European Union (EU), the EC has recently proposed a set of\u00a0<\/span><b style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif; font-size: 1rem;\">rules that address specific risks\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0and set the basis for the world\u2019s first regulatory framework dedicated to the deployment and use of AI. So, it may become difficult to assess whether someone has been unfairly disadvantaged, such as in a hiring decision or in an application for a public benefit scheme.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 0cm;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">Although existing legislation provides some protection, it is insufficient to address the specific challenges AI systems may bring.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 0cm;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif\">The<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/regulatory-framework-ai\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif\">regulatory framework proposed<\/span><\/b><\/a><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif\">,<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI', sans-serif\">\u00a0suggests a risk\u2013based approach, with four levels of risk:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-3bc5683 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3bc5683\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container 0cm\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Unacceptable risk<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">: A very limited set of particularly harmful uses of AI that contravene fundamental rights and should be banned.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 0cm\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">High-risk<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">: A limited number of AI creating an adverse impact on people\u2019s safety or their fundamental rights are subject to strict\u00ad obligations before they can be put on the market.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 0cm\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">AI with specific transparency requirements<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">: For certain AI systems transparency obligations are imposed.<\/span><\/p><p><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Minimal to no risk<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">: All other AI systems, and this is the vast majority, can be developed and used subject to the existing legislation without additional legal obligations.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-26a78e7\" data-id=\"26a78e7\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div
